Hello from Northern California!
The drive yesterday was ridiculously long due to a fire along the 5 freeway. For a couple miles near the Grapevine, the sky was a deep orange color and traffic was ridiculous because people (including myself – oops) slowed down to witness the craziness.
It tacked on an additional hour and a half to our drive but it’s hard to complain when you see the firefighters out there in the blazing hot heat to put out the flames.
After we drove for 6 hours without stopping once, we were both pretty exhausted and our bodies ached. We drove straight to one of those “$20 foot massage” places that is actually just a full-body massage with all of your clothes on. Best $20 I’ve spent in a long time.
I came home and immediately passed out – with nasty massage oils all over my face/hair. I’m disgusting.
When I woke up this morning, I was met with bags full of “trash.”
I say “trash” because it’s not actually trash. Just things my mother deems as clutter and a waste of space. I bitched and moaned a little, but now, as I’m sitting on my couch, staring at my beautiful apartment, I’m thankful. Very thankful.
My cabinets have not looked this organized since August when I first moved in. Well, maybe in October. But that’s cause I just ran out of food. I’m an adult – I swear.
The saddest part of my day was saying goodbye to Ted. You may remember him from back in August of last year. I got him for $5 at a yard sale and he was a great addition to our classroom. However, since I will be moving to a much smaller office/classroom next year, I must bid farewell. (I also realize I haven’t gone into detail about where I will be working this school year. I’ll be working at a Rocketship school in San Jose. I made this decision for several reasons. I will get into them at another time. Let’s just say, I am sad to be losing Ted. But very, very excited for this opportunity).
Later that day, we saw one of our neighbors with the spice rack that I had thrown out. But, sadly, nobody wanted Ted.
We’ve been running errands and cleaning all day. I also managed to finish all my packing the night before my flight. What a concept. We leave for Hawaii tomorrow morning and this time I’ve packed – and plan on taking – the Xanax.
I also packed us some snacks (but who am I kidding – that shit was packed before our actual clothes for the week).
While I packed, my superhero mom cooked dinner.
She made some mushroom & asparagus risotto with a side salad. And a side of Fat Tuesday.
Now I must go shower and hit the hay.
Fun fact for you. In 1902, mattresses were often sacks stuffed with straw or hay. Hence, the term, “hit the hay.” Sometimes I say things and I don’t know why. So I google them. Urban Dictionary is my favorite.

TELL ME ALL THE THINGS:
What’s the last thing you Urban Dictionary-ed?
Favorite snacks on a plane?
Get it? Like snakes on a plane. But snacks.

Wait… everyone doesn’t pack last minute??? haha I am the worst, literally throwing things in the car as we’re leaving. My husband would pack a month in advance if I’d let him.
PS: I totally would have taken Ted from you. I’m moving down to 4k!
