Camp Tuolumne Trails: Thinking With My Heart

This weekend was perfect. It was magical.

The kind of weekend where you get lost in the little moments of your day.

The kind of weekend where you have no concept of time because all of your attention is on the people you’re with and the things you’re doing.

It was my first visit to our campsite. [Rocketship sends it’s 5th graders to this camp. RBM is only TK-4th grade for this year! But I was really excited to see where my kiddos would be going next year, so I immediately said yes when asked if I wanted to help out with some camp beautification projects.]

As Saturday drew closer, I felt myself getting a bit anxious to be leaving town for the second weekend in a row. My mind kept telling me, “You should probably stick around. Go to the bank. Drop your pile of clothes off to the dry cleaners. Get some stuff done.”

But my heart kept telling me  to go outside. “Go play. Go build things. Go hike to a waterfall and then swim in the lake.”

Lucky for me, my heart won the battle.

On Saturday night, we all sat down for dinner and went around the circle sharing our highs and lows of the day. None of us were able to point out a single moment that stood out over another.

We whacked weeds. Built log structures. Climbed rocks. Pulled Goddess cards.

We drank champagne with St. Germaine. Saw a black widow. And compared boyfriends to burritos.

We did yoga on the observation deck. Thug yoga. Roll-out-your-mat-and-eat-your-sandwich kind of yoga.

The kind of yoga where you didn’t take it seriously and, if you fell over because you were giggling too much, it was okay because that meant you were doing it right.

We watched Juan and Chris seeing songs.

And then we watched Becky and Jen dance to songs.

We stayed up late sharing AOL screen names, favorite hot sauces, and ridiculous stories from high school.

And then got woken up early by woodpeckers knockin’ on the cabins.

It was an unforgettable weekend. A weekend that reminded me that it’s okay to think with my heart. Because giving my heart what it wants makes me the happiest.
