Good morning!
It’s 6am, but still feels like it’s the middle of the night. I’m sitting here in the dark room with the white noise machine on and the baby fell back asleep after his 2nd? 3rd? feeding of the night.
If I were smart, I’d fall back asleep with him because I’m sure my body and brain could use the extra hours.
But I’m not smart.
Ha.
Okay, that’s not true. It’s just that this last wake-up was a bit longer than others. He had wrestled his way outta the swaddle so put that back on. He nursed. I peed. And by the time all that was over, my brain turned on.
So now I’m here.
Can’t believe our time in California is almost over. I’m not ready, I’m not ready, I’m not ready.
We landed in SoCal on Saturday and were greeted at the airport by Mama Papa. We picked up Jersey Mike’s sammies on the way home. And then were greeted at home by Sujata Masi, Nandi Uncle, and Nani. We all had lunch while Ishu romped around the house, taking note of all the toys – old and new – that he would be playing with all week long.
In the early evening, Ankur and I escaped for a trip to the grocery store and a quick froyo date while the Nanis and Nanus watched the babies.
And then in the evening, the Chino fam came over for a sleepover. Which was the best best best. There’s something so dang special about watching this next generation of cousins hang out with each other. It brings back all the special memories of my own childhood.
Nap was skipped, bedtime was delayed. But it didn’t really matter. Ankur and I both feel strongly about the fact that routine is important but it’s equally important to throw routine out the window for special moments like these! Even if it does take a day or two to reset.
The next day, there was even more fun to be had.
A taco truck, a bounce house, and all the family and friends in our backyard.
We got to catch up with friends we haven’t seen in YEARS. Baby Riyaan and Kai were passed around from person to person, leaving me confused about what to do with my hands. Ha. And then, I don’t think I spoke to Ishu from noon ’til 7pm. He was bouncing in the jumper for hours. His sweet, older cousin played supervisor and helped mediate when he’d start roaring at the other kids. His papa took care of feeding him lunch and managed to get him down for a nap. I felt like I was ‘off the clock’ with Ishu. And I loved that he was still being so cared for and looked after.
And now, we’ve got another day of cousin bonding ahead of us.
We’re headed to Chino in a few hours to celebrate a special birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, BHAV!) and soak up all the time we can get with the fam.
Can’t wait. <3
