Back to School(ish)

Me: I’m so happy Ishu is back in school and we’re all settling into somewhat of a routine.

Also me: Let’s blow it all up and go to the beach on Thursday.

Ha.

It’s FINE. We’ll hop back on the routine train next week.

I think Ishu’s just thrilled to be back with his buddies after being away for so long.

Toward the end of the trip, he really started missing them. And, let’s be honest. Mom wasn’t that great of a playdate. He was excited to hang with Riyu, but obviously, Riyu was no match for Ishu’s energy.

Two of Ishu’s friends start at new schools on Monday so this feels like the final hurrah before summer comes to an end.

They’ve thrown their super soakers and kickboards in the bottom of the stroller. And, apparently, that’s all we need for a successful beach day. Oh, to be young again.

Like.

Why didn’t I appreciate that there was an adult doing EVERYTHING – making all these healthy meals, planning the fun, keeping me alive?!

THANK YOU MAMA.

Anyway, we’re mostly ready to head out the door. Just needed a moment to drink my coffee and stop sweating so much.

So much sweat.

This weekend is the Air & Water show in Chicago. And, normally, I like to NOT be here for it because the loud zooming above our buildings is not so great for my nervous system. I couldn’t escape it two years ago because that was the weekend Riyu was born. So we were just up at Prentice watching the show with a pretty great view. But the sounds, man. The sounds. It’s so intense.

We briefly talked about going away this weekend. But I think we’re just going to suck it up and I’m going to borrow the kids’ noise-cancelling headphones (because they are clearly unphased by it) and call it a day. A weekend.

Our little guy turns TWO this weekend.

We’re not doing a whole lot.

Probably some ice cream cake and several rounds of the Happy Birthday song because that’s his new fav jam.

That’s it!

Okay, I guess I’ll get back to loading up the stroller so we can head out soon.

Have a good one!
