Ankur’s PGY-2 cohort had plans to go out to a pizza place last night for dinner. He texted me about it a few hours before heading home from work and I wrote back, “Nice, you should go.”
I feel like he’s missed a lot of social events because he’s the only one in his class with a kid.
I mean, I guess that’s normal. Nobody really has the same social life they did before their babies existed (and, if you do, mind filling this mama in on how you do it?!)
But he said a few people in his class asked us (me and baby) to tag along. So, we ditched the idea of making pizza at home and got ready and walked to River North to this place.
Initially, the thought of going off our normal weekday routine felt stressful. I mean, I *did* just give Ishaan a bath and he was basically ready to go to bed. But there was part of me that wanted to meet the people Ankur shares most of his time with. (I got to meet some people in his program at the Ric-Nic a couple weekends ago. But there was only one other PGY-2 resident at that).
Ishaan was a little confused why we went from bath time to the stroller. But he rolled with it. LITERALLY, HA. (Ankur thinks my mom jokes are terrible and he’s probs not wrong).
We got there and the hostess seated our party outside. Thankfully, Ishu does a better job when we sit outside because there’s so much to see. And, sure enough, within a few minutes of being seated, several fire trucks drove by capturing his interest.
The three of us shared a pizza and we stayed for only an hour. During that time, Ishaan managed to unbuckle himself from his high chair 15 times and spill a cup of water all over himself.
But he also managed to let his parents enjoy a nice dinner with other people. All while being the cutest, most charming little human.
On the walk back home (at 8:30pm), I laughed to Ankur and said, “I think this is the latest I’ve been out in Chicago since we moved here.” Like, I actually don’t think I know what the city looks like when the sun goes down.
Maybe we’ll need more baby’s-night-out nights in the future! It definitely throws us off a tiny bit, but the reward is sometimes worth it.
Question of the Day:
Are you more of a go-with-the-flow person or do you stick to routine during the week?

I’m a mix of both. I imagine it’s hard to be go with the flow when you have a young child. That’s great you went out though and had a good time!
