I was talking to a friend the other day about creating a baby shower registry.
We walk through Target or scroll through Amazon and are inundated with ALL the baby things that we think we need.
Fortunately for us, Ankur and I were moving shortly after we had the baby. So, when it was our turn to make our baby shower registry, we had asked only for the “essentials.” But, even that, as a new mom, how do you even know what “the essentials” are?
If I had to go back and do it over, I wouldn’t ask for the Boppy (I’d get the Brestfriend).
And, instead of collecting gift cards for clothes, I’d ask for money to be donated to fund a king-sized mattress.
Again, I wouldn’t have known this if I didn’t know my baby.
It’s a lot like being a teacher.
You can spend all July and August decorating your classroom for your students.
But then when you get your students in September and start to know them, you ask yourself, “Is this classroom even functional?” Yeah, it’s cute. But maybe I didn’t need to spend my time doing that when I’m trying to fix it now and make it more accessible for the students I have.
That’s how it feels.
So, if you’re in the market for creating a baby shower registry in your near future, maybe hold off on the cutesty tootsey things and think about how much better you’ll be at getting the THINGS when you meet your baby!
This may be an unpopular opinion. People like to have their nurseries ready to go.
But our crib has become a REALLY expensive laundry basket.
I had no idea someone was going to wiggle his way into our bed.
Did I know Ishaan was going to turn us into a bedsharing family?
No.
But do I want to do it any other way now?
No.
