Good morning, good morning.
We had a very full, very happy weekend over here. Most of which was spent outside.
I’m reminded, yet again, how happy the sunshine makes me (and, also, reminded how calm and regulated my kid can be when he spends a bulk of his day outdoors).
On Friday, I drove the kids down to meet Ankur at the conference. (Had to stop twice because we are still learning how to be car people). We scooped Ankur up and spent the evening at a playground near the convention center.
The plan was to go out to dinner, but once we got these kids back into the AirBnB, it was hard to want to go back out in the dark. So, we got salads and sandwiches delivered. Ankur and Ishu played a round of Sorry. And the kids (and their mama) fell asleep quickly.
On Saturday, we had an early breakfast at Intazza before meeting the Hodels at the zoo. It’s been ages since I’ve been to the SD zoo and it was just as impressive as I remember it being.
We didn’t get to see ALL the animals, but we all left the zoo feeling pretty happy and agreed that it was the perfect way to spend the morning.
All four kids passed out on the car ride home. And then once those little eyes opened, they were bouncing around, ready to do it all over again. So we hung out at the neighborhood park until the sun went down and then moseyed on over to the Hodels’ new home, which we were seeing for the first time.
Play time. Bath time. And then we drove over to Anshu Aunty’s house for birthday dinner. It was so nice seeing everyone after so long.
We were the first to leave because the baby was struuuuggling by that point. But I’m so so happy we went for a little bit and got to hug everyone.
On Sunday morning, we went back to Dana Point and spent the morning at Baby Beach.
It was so fun watching Maya and Ishu splash around in the water. They were both zooming around, screaming “SPERM WHALE SPEED” as loud as they could. Scooping up the squishy sand and tossing it back into the water. Drawing patterns on the shore.
Happy kids. Happy grown-ups.
We went to a local brunch spot and then drove back home, where we ended up staying for the remainder of the evening.
Yesterday, the four of us drove to LB to meet up with Amy. And I got to catch up with her over breakfast while Ankur and the kids went to a nearby playground.
In the evening, a few people came over for dinner.
Ishu spent some quality time building a fort with Maika. They played freeze dance and built magical wands. And it’s just beyond wild to look at our babies doing things and think this was us 30 years ago.
The circle of life.
I can only hope we will be doing this again in 30 years with our grandkids.
Okay, that’s about as sentimental as I can get this morning. The kids are asleep. The house is quiet. I am going to run downstairs and enjoy some coffee next to the fireplace.
Hope you had a great weekend!
