Good morning! Today is going to be an extra long day since we’ve got WinterFest this evening after school. So I’m injecting the caffeine into my system and crossing my fingers that it lasts until 8PM tonight!
I’m looking forward to this weekend because a few of us are heading up to Knoxville tomorrow to get some Christmas shopping in! I am always in favor of going to Knoxville. But I’m feeling an urgency – now more than ever – because I’m quite behind on all my Christmas shopping!
Before the weekend officially kicks off and I (hopefully) spend some time away from my computer, I wanted to be sure to pop in and share the weekly Fun Facts blog post with you all! Below you will find a smattering of random tidbits from this past week. Enjoy!
-
Christmas has officially thrown up all over our school.
Teachers have decorated their doors. The hallways are lined with butcher paper Christmas trees. Ornaments are hung with students’ names on them. There are actual Christmas trees in the front lobby – each one decorated by a different grade level. Snowflakes are hanging from the ceilings. And I feel like I am truly in a Winter Wonderland every time I open up our front doors. It’s pretty magical.

I’ve been diffusing oils non-stop over here.
Every once in a while, I’ll set aside the On Guard and/or Breathe oils and run “Holiday Joy” or “Douglas Fir” in my diffuser. It makes our whole apartment smell like a combination of pine needles and cinnamon. That, in addition to all the Christmas decorations in here, is making every morning and evening so cozy. (And also really difficult to want to leave for work). -
Sometimes I let my kids use a pen when they’re writing – just to see their reaction.
It’s the little things, right? I couldn’t find a pencil for my student to use at the end of the day (seriously, I bought HUNDREDS in August. They disappear within seconds). So, I pulled out a pen for him to fill out one of his “Good Tickets.” He scanned the whole class to see if anyone could see him. And, when they looked his way, he lifted up the pen in the air and said, “I get to use a PEN.” I could almost feel the excitement he was experiencing. I remember, growing up, #2 pencils were all we could use. And, even as an adult, I get a secret thrill from writing with a really great ballpoint pen. -
My family sent over 200 Whatsapp messages last night with banter back-and-forth about these two puzzles.
I won’t give it away if you like puzzles/problem-solving. But, let’s just say that the first puzzle appears easy, but will TRICK you if you aren’t observant. (Yes, I was duped.) The second one requires you to be a little observant as well. And having a pen and paper nearby – to keep track of all the numbers – wouldn’t hurt.

Loved the reaction of your student over being able to use a pen. Ahhh I remember those days! I’ll be working on that second numbers riddle for a bit though. LOL!

I really have no preference as to what I write with–probably because as a (semi retired now) bookkeeper–I had to use both all the time. Whatever is within easy reach is what I use!!

I’m a big pen snob. If the pen doesn’t have a very fine point/tip, my handwriting is pretty mediocre. Get me a proper pen and some magical penmanship starts happening. Haha!
Tomorrow my family and I are going to Delaware for Yuletide at the Winterthur Estate and Museum. I splurged on a family membership a couple of months ago and have been itching to go back. I hear it’s magical during yuletide 🙂
Have a great weekend!

The Special Ed teacher at my school was just talking about how quickly she goes through pencils in her classroom and another teacher said, “Yeah, I’ve noticed that! And I don’t know where they even end up, because they’re not making it to my classroom!” It was a funny conversation to listen to, but so true.

The answer of second puzzle needs to be 98 if I am not wrong (90+9 -1 ). At first, I thought the answer would be 99, without clearly looking at the parametric equation.

Yay for Christmas! I haven’t finished my shopping yet. Eek. I need to get on that.

Good to know about the win!! I too inject myself with caffeine hoping it will last all day. I am not done with my Christmas shopping yet, while not too behind I still have stuff I have to buy for people out-of-town and ship. We were the weird ones that set our Christmas tree up right after Halloween. We really just like to have it up and not deal with the hassle amidst the business of all of Christmas, so we look like real enthusiasts, when we are just trying to spread it out so we enjoy it more and there’s less rush to get things done.
